PM Hun Sen Supports US Investment in Cambodia

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen has urged the US-ASEAN Business Council to continue investing and exploring more investment potential in Cambodia. The Prime Minister's urging came as he met with the US-ASEAN Business Council, headed by Senior Vice President and Regional Managing Director, Michael Michalak, to the Peace Palace on Thursday morning.

During the meeting, the US-ASEAN Business Council Senior Vice President and Regional Managing Director, Michael Michalak, thanked the Prime Minister for his support for business in the ASEAN region, and also praised the Prime Minister’s leadership of ASEAN. He further informed Prime Minister Hun Sen about the interests of his administration in the fields of energy, factory assembly, car assembly, and the promotion of the digital economy in Cambodia.

In response, Prime Minister Hun Sen said he welcomed the involvement of the United States in the development of Cambodia's energy sector, and encouraged US investors to continue investing and exploring more investment potential in Cambodia.

The Prime Minister’s Personal Assistant, Eang Sophalleth, told reporters after the meeting, "the Prime Minister also welcomed the installation of a car assembly plant in Pursat province, and encouraged all companies to continue investing and seeking more potential to invest in Cambodia.”

Michael Michalak’s delegation attending the meeting with Prime Minister Hun Sen included 13 American company representatives.

US carmaker Ford has now begun its assembly line project in Cambodia, located in the Krakor Special Economic Zone in Pursat province. The plant has an investment value of about 21 million US dollars.
